Press release
22nd February 2002

Excellent start for garden-open.com!

garden-open.com has now been online for more than two weeks and its time to summarise success so far. The launch has been very successful, apart from a couple of minor hurdles that had to be crossed.

As of today, 31 gardens are online already and a further 83 have registered. However, these still need a little bit of work before they can finally go online. Many other garden owners have registered their interest by email and their garden will go online in the near future. The site has attracted more than 2400 visitors so far. The American garden magazine "Horticulture" mentioned garden-open.com in their last newsletter and the New Zealand magazine "Alfresco" will feature some lines on garden-open.com in their next issue.

Most of the registrations came from the US, closely followed by New Zealand! Germany still has very low numbers of registrations (a total of nine, six of which are online) and one is wondering why.

My home ist my castle. When travelling through England this is actually hard to believe! Frequently you will find those yellow sign on the side of the road advertising "garden open". They invite you to visit the garden. However, so far we received only nine registrations, four of them are online.

So far we have registrations from the following countries:
Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, United Kingdom, USA

Registration with garden-open.com is very simple. Here is how it works:

  • garden-open.com is open to all gardens, regardless whether they are private, publicly or corporate owned. Botanical gardens are welcome as well,
  • The garden must be interesting, it must be attractive for a visit and it must be open for at least once a year,
  • Registration of the garden is free of charge and without any obligation,
  • Gardens can only go online with a full description and three photos,
  • Registration is by the owner and online,
  • The garden owner is free to decide when the garden goes online or offline.
